OSAGO / KASKO insurance for an RV

Also known as: RV insurance, OSAGO motorhome, KASKO caravan, Motorhome insurance Russia

Russian compulsory motor insurance (OSAGO) is standard for RVs; comprehensive cover (KASKO) costs more because of the vehicle’s high value and risk.

For insurance purposes, a motorhome in Russia is treated as a light commercial vehicle / special-body vehicle.

OSAGO (Russian compulsory third-party motor insurance): - Mandatory, standard procedure - 20–40% more expensive than for a regular car because of the weight and size - The standard coverage limit is sufficient

KASKO (comprehensive cover): - Not mandatory, but recommended — a motorhome is worth RUB 3–15 million - Costs 2.5–4% of the insured value per year (e.g. a RUB 5 million motorhome → RUB 125,000–200,000 a year) - Covers: theft, accidents, natural hazards (hail), vandalism, fire - Note: insure the full package including the living module and equipment (solar panels, air conditioning, furniture)

Travel insurance for the trip: - Covers travellers’ medical costs in case of injury - Especially important in the Caucasus, Altai and the Far East — remote “wild” terrain with real risks - Add-on: RV towing in case of breakdown (roadside assistance) — RUB 2,000–5,000 per trip

Costs for an average RUB 5 million motorhome: - OSAGO: RUB 15,000–25,000 a year - Full KASKO: RUB 150,000–200,000 a year - 14-day travel insurance: RUB 1,500–3,000 - Roadside assistance: RUB 2,000–4,000
