Frequently asked questions

A short guide to how the CAMPLY map, app and data work.

What is CAMPLY?
CAMPLY is a map for travelling by car, campervan, bike and on foot anywhere in the world: campgrounds, parking spots and places shared by travellers, hiking and cycling trails, national parks, weather and road hazards. The map is free to use, no sign-up needed.
Is it free?
Yes. The map, trails, weather and all layers are open without an account. You only need to sign in to add places, write reviews, save spots and publish routes and stories.
How do I add a place to the map?
Sign in and tap “Add a spot”: mark the place on the map, choose a type (parking, water source, viewpoint and more), add a description and photos. The region and country are detected from the location. Once a moderator checks it, the place appears on the public map.
Where does the map data come from?
Places and reviews are added by travellers and checked by moderators. The base map, trails and roads come from OpenStreetMap. Weather forecasts use the ICON (Deutscher Wetterdienst), GFS and ECMWF models; wildfires come from NASA satellites; earthquakes and natural hazards from USGS and GDACS; aurora forecasts from NOAA.
Where can I find hiking and cycling trails?
In the Hiking and Cycling sections — hundreds of thousands of trails worldwide. Each one shows its length, elevation gain, difficulty, surface and the line on the map. You can filter the list by country, region, length and type.
What layers can I turn on?
Besides places and trails, you can turn on a multi-day weather forecast (precipitation, temperature, clouds, wind), the precipitation radar, the aurora forecast, tides, wildfires, earthquakes and natural hazards, day and night, satellites and the ISS, terrain shading and contour lines.
How do I plan or share a route?
In the Routes section, build a trip day by day with campgrounds and stops along the way — the line follows real roads and you can download it as GPX. Save the finished route and publish it for other travellers.
Is CAMPLY available in other languages?
Yes: camply.camp is in English and camply.ru is in Russian. Switch between them with the language button in the site header.
