Suar
Description
The remains of Suvar, a large city of Volga-Kama Bulgaria founded by the Suvar tribe no later than the 9th century. The city perished in the Mongol invasion of 1236. Today it is an archaeological site in Spassky District of Tatarstan: ramparts and ditches in a field, with no reconstructed buildings — worth visiting for the place itself and a sense of its scale rather than for a display.
