Sviyazhsk Assumption Monastery

Description

A monastery in Sviyazhsk founded in 1555, soon after the fortress itself was laid out. Its chief treasure is the mid-16th-century Dormition Cathedral with an exceptionally well-preserved fresco cycle of the same period; in 2017 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Sviyazhsk is linked to the shore by a causeway, so you can drive up and leave the car in the car park at the entrance to the island.
