The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in Novokuznetsk was founded in the late 18th century and is considered the oldest stone building in the Kuzbass. In Soviet times the church lost its domes and was put to other uses; restoration took decades and was completed only in the 2010s. It stands on a rise above the Tom in the historic part of the city, next to old Kuznetsk and the Kuznetsk Fortress.
