The ensemble was built at the turn of the 18th century: St Sophia-Dormition Cathedral, the merchants' court, the Rentereya and the prison castle, which now houses a museum. The kremlin terrace gives a view over the lower town and the Irtysh. The long Pryamskoy Staircase links the upper and lower towns; by car you reach the top by a roundabout route.
