Tides: when the water goes out and when it comes back

Pick a place on the sea coast to see whether the tide is rising or falling, a 24-hour water level chart and high and low water for two days. Tide points run every 2 km along the world's coastline. Not for navigation.

Looking for the nearest tide point…

In short

Tides on CAMPLY are a 24-hour chart of high and low water for any point on the world's coastline: tide points stand every 2 km along the shores, 941 thousand in all. The computation runs from harmonic constants right on the device, so in the app it works offline; a camp card by the shore shows “water is rising or falling” and the height of high water.

What's inside

Any point on the coast

24-hour chart

High and low water with heights, the “now” moment on the curve and the next turn.

Rising or falling

One word in the card of any place by the shore and on the map plate, so you don't have to work it out.

Current

Where and how strongly the water moves by the shore: for kayaks, paddleboards and picking a camp near an estuary.

High and low water for two days

Time and height of every turn today and tomorrow — to plan leaving the foreshore.

How to use it

How to check the tide at your camp

The computation runs on the device from harmonics, so in the app the tide works offline too.

  1. 1

    Turn on the Tides layer

Points along the shore show where it is high water now and where it is low.

  2. 2

Open a place by the shore

A camp or campground card shows the tide line and the 24-hour chart.

  3. 3

    Park above high water

The height of high water in the card is in metres — compare it with the shore where you stand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about tides

Which coasts have tides?
The whole world: tide points stand every 2 km along the shores, 941 thousand coastal points in all.
How accurate is the computation?
It runs from harmonic constants for the nearest coastal point. It is the same maths as in tide tables; in bays with complex seabeds deviations are possible. Not for navigation.
What does a coastal place card show?
High and low water for the day, the word “rising” or “falling”, the height of high water in metres and the direction of the current.
Why would an overlander need tides?
So you don't park on the foreshore and don't have to wade back to the vehicle. On the Bristol Channel or the Bay of Fundy the range reaches many metres.
